Important Fabric Information

Purchasing Striped Fabrics

All stripe patterns in grades B through F must be ordered in even quantities, with a minimum order of two.

Fabric Crazing

Certain fabrics are susceptible to crazing. Crazing is an inherent characteristic of all solution-dyed acrylic fabrics and is caused by folding or creasing of the fabric during production or installation. Crazing lines appear as white lines on dark colored fabrics when front-lit, and dark lines on light colored fabrics when backlit. The primary contributor to crazing are the resins added in the final stages of manufacturing. These resins add stiffness, so the fabric lies flat during sewing, which is critical for the manufacturing process. These resins can be viewed as an industrial fabric starch with a specific end purpose. Crazing does not affect the performance or characteristics of Recasens, Sunbrella or other acrylic fabrics — the fabric remains water repellent as well as stain and mildew resistant — and the lines will diminish over time with exposure to the elements.

Certain grades of fabric cannot be combined in one umbrella. Contact us for a recommendation.

NOTE: If time is of the essence, select from our Grade A fabrics that are always in stock.

  • What are the grade differences?

    Grade A
Frankford uses 9 oz. marine grade, 100% solution-dyed acrylic fabric that is manufactured with the highest quality raw materials, and undergoes rigorous quality-assurance tests. All of our Grade A marine grade fabrics have an outer surface finish, and are treated with the Infinity Process which makes the fabric waterproof. They are easy to clean, mold and mildew resistant, and have an exceptional (and unmatched) guarantee against fading.

Our Grade A fabrics consist of 25 vivid colors (19 solid and 6 stripe options) that are stocked for faster lead times.

Grade A+ includes any customization to Grade A fabrics (i.e. alternating panels, adding valances, custom wind vent color, custom binding or trim color, logos/silk screen, etc.).

Grades B-F include all non-stock Sunbrella® and Outdura fabrics, and carry an extended lead time. Any Grade B-F striped fabric must be ordered in even quantities, with a minimum order requirement of (2) umbrellas.

  • The Recacril® and Recsystem® canvases, manufactured by Recasens, are treated with a special technological process to ensure the lasting quality of the fabric. In this process, nanoparticles completely cover the surface of the fibers in the fabric, forming a permanent coat. After treatment, both the surface and the inside of the fabric are permanently protected against dirt build-up and adverse effects of a wide variety of atmospheric agents.

The low reactivity and high stability of the infinity treatment endows long-term protection to the fabric, especially against mildew, and provides excellent water and oil repellent.

DISCLAIMER: Stripe fabrics can only be sewn horizontal. Stripes cannot be vertical.

LEAD TIME: Frankford Umbrellas’ Grade A stock Recacril Fabrics listed above have a lead time of 7-10 business days. During peak season, this lead-time may extend to 14 business days. All GRADE A ECLIPSE, AURORA, NOVA, G-SERIES, GREENWICH and BEACH CABANA orders, and all GRADE A+ orders carry a lead-time of 3-4 weeks. During peak season, this may extend to 5 weeks.
